Is the Seattle market particularly competitive? A lot of big firms there don’t pay full Milbank scale, right?

Google. Small market. But not many people want to deal with the constant overcast either. You also end up working on either CA or NY deals most of the time

like

Not super competitive and no big firms there don’t pay market. It is frustrating because COL is high

like

Yeah not true. Fenwick, WSGR, Cooley all pay market. Perkins and DWT don’t but honestly the former is sort of a dumpster fire right now and the latter is not really in the same league as other biglaw

Not in Seattle but I work at a firm with a large and prominent Seattle office. I think local ties are very important. Most of our laterals from out of state are people at V30 type firms from the PNW who want to return home

like

Yes, I think this is right. I don’t know if the market is particularly competitive, but the culture overall is a bit insular (see, the “Seattle freeze”) and people without a clear connection to the PNW should expect to be asked why they want to come here.

like

Seattle has open comp laws so if there are specific firms you’re interested in, you should be able to check their careers page for jobs in Seattle to confirm if the stated salary range is market.

My gf and me call each other everytime we have free time. However lately she seems disinterested in phone time. She never initiates calls anymore and she tells me she wants to hang up in the middle of the day and not right before bedtime. We live a 4 hour drive apart. And I told her this is like living together from a distance, because I put her on the house speakers. What can I do to keep her engaged?

Joined a big firm (Big4) not long a go and starting to feel like I got a good grip on my current work.

I've always been very technical, so I think that the only thing I am missing now is making sales. (I really wanna make partner)

Can any seasoned lawyer share tips and materials (i.e. books) which can help?

Would it be a good idea to join a Social Club where potential clients spend time? (gym/tennis/paddel/events)

Any advice welcome!

How did you give notice you were lateraling to people you like? Particularly if you haven't been there that long?

I'm lateraling to another firm because frankly I think the management of this one is terrible, but the people (and individual partners) I actually work with are awesome. I've only been here for about 18 months, so I imagine that short time frame will make it extra awkward 😬
