It really does take until the 4th of July to decompress. Or as a Russian friend says: “decompose.” Ha. Same difference.

Totally not decomposed yet. I hope it happens before school starts 😬

To expedite your decomposition, try laying down outside with your face towards the sun. Even for 5 minutes. Feel the sun on your forehead. This helps me turn into compost.

Hey all, having issues with interviewing this year. I’ve been passed over every opportunity I really want and I’m unsure how to regroup and move forward. A lot of my HPLC and LCMS experience is with already established methods. Any tips?

Has anyone tried breathing exercises with their students to help them calm down at the start of class?

likeuplifting

Start each class with a few seconds of stillness. It takes consistent practice. Most students will blurt something silly out after about 4 seconds. Expect it and smile. After time is up ask students to notice what they were doing during that time. No shame. Notice and strive to be more still next.

1. Hands, feet, mouth, arms, legs still (a veritable challenge)
2. Close the eyes.
3. Long exhales to bring in the calming chemical acetylcholine.
