I've always assumed mentors should be older than me... and that has been the case for the most part.

When you are looking at mentors, what do you look for? Has their personal life ever played a role in whether or not you would want them as a mentor?

I had a manager in my previous job who didn't have the family life I would want and a lot of that was because of her.

I used to think mentors had to be older too, but now I look more at alignment. Skills, mindset, and how they live their life matter. If someone’s version of success comes at the cost of everything else, that’s not a path I want to follow.

Normal to have older mentors. They have more experience and more wisdom to offer. However, it isn’t a prerequisite. People of all different ages can offer a lot of great insight. Missing out if you only ever look at age.
