I would just go with the offer that pays more and offers more opportunities for advancement. Titles means very little to me, I only really consider whether or not a switch would impact my material conditions.
Step back and look at that resume (with this new position) as if you were considering hiring that person. Would you then look at it as a step back, or would you recognize that they 1) went to a higher volume store, 2) expanded their career, 3) made more money, and 4) possibly learned different things about retail, considering this was a higher volume store than they had been in before?
Move on. Learn new stuff. If being the AGM means letting go of some responsibilities AND being paid more... git you some!!
Awesome choice of words man. That’s awesome stuff. You obviously run a successful business. Kudos
Higher pay with less headaches? It’s a no-brainer. Show you can handle the higher volume business and you’ll be back to store manager in no time.
I would take the opportunity to move to a different retailer that will allow you to continue your growth as a manager and a person. You never know where it can lead and once you have that title on your resume they can’t take it away.
Go for it and good luck!!
Definitely move on . with your experience you'll probably move up quickly. Sometimes it's good to learn a company from the bottom up. Congrats
30 years what do you have to lose? Seems to me you’ve been spinning your wheels on a job that doesn’t or hasn’t valued your commitment so take the opportunity and live with it
Besides you finally get a lil more money
If you find yourself fulfilled with staying in the position, at the pay you are at now?! If you believe that in two years, five or ten... You're still going to be fulfilled... Stay out!
Since you have that experience, already being proficient and knowledgeable. You will climb the ranks in no time!!
It sounds like you're a go getter, you want to strive for more.
I think you know the answer!
Good luck with your decision
If your goal and satisfaction are to be Manager stick with that position however if your goal and satisfaction are to be making More money take the Assistant Manager position that paid more as you said. I must warn you after 25 years as top decision maker it will be hard for you to have someone override you or defer to.
You’ve already answered your own question but it’s just scary to step out of the comfort zone and start building again.
If the culture/atmosphere/conditions of the new job seems to be a fit, it’s not a step back, it’s a side step onto a path that goes further.
You are never to old to start over. May seem like a step back for some, but this is you and no one else. This job they are offering you, you can advance and climb up.
What an excellent opportunity for your to demonstrate your leadership through development of your peers. Participate and be engaged with the development side of the business by utilizing your experience to provide the intangibles to a younger generation. Judgement, decision making, analytical skills, communication.
Move on, sometimes we have to take a step back to see the full picture. You made it this far doing a good job. Keep that mindset and you next promotion may come sooner than you think.
I accepted a job where I made less money but ranked up. For me, it's what is going to help me get to where I want to be. And I did just get a raise the other day, so now I'm making more (hourly) than I ever have previously.
It doesn't matter what your position is. If it pays more and you are treated well th a t is all that counts.
I have DM friends say “Assistant Manager is the hardest under appreciated position, in retail”. However, many say retail won’t be around much, in brick & mortar, in 10 years. Money is important. Very often, you must leave a company to get past the ceiling.
I think it depends on your current situation with the store management, if you feel enough respect and are not facing laid off later, you should stay in your position because starting from zero is not a good option + other hidden possibility that is coming to your way
Depends on your long term goals. I’m trying to retire early so I would take the higher pay in my situation.
I say do what makes you happier ! I have been in the F/B management side now for 10 years and will be taking a huge step down to start into a new industry but def leaning more towards what pays more. dont be afraid to take one step back to be able to move 5 steps forward ! :-)
Depends on how much they’re offering and if it’s a good company to work for and if there is opportunity for growth. The grass isn’t always greener but leaving on good terms does mean something so if doesn’t work out maybe you could go back to your old position.
More money for less responsibility plus room to move up? Smart move
