I grew a few plants out of curiosity after my state legalized a handful of years ago. It was interesting - definitely makes you appreciate how much effort / equipment and expertise goes into commercial grows. I got very low yields and the worst product I’ve ever encountered- but I was doing it outdoors and our climate isn’t ideal for it.
No you’re not crazy! I smoked marijuana when I was younger but I had long since quit by the time a close friend started a grow operation after it was legalized in our state. (He is now a major wholesale supplier to dispensaries all across our state.) For a while I was helping him at the “factory.” At first I did it because he really needed the help, but I was surprised at how much fun it was! The weeks I spent working with the plants on the grow farm are honestly some of my favorite memories. It’s not an easy plant to grow properly and I learned a lot. It’s just such an interesting thing to learn to do, especially if you start getting deep into specific qualities you’re trying to cultivate. Very cool.
You’re not crazy. It is interesting to grow a plant or two. I give it away once it’s ready to harvest.
As a newbie, start in dirt - outside if you are in a good climate (like in CA)-grow tent if you are in the North East. Hydroponics is a huge pain and cost more money to start up. Husband was moderately successful with hydro, but root issues and stunted growth are a problem. Once he got a male seed...we ended up using the leaves in a spanakopita.
