I tend to overwork myself and it’s really taking a toll on my mental well-being. I want to learn a lot and prove myself to my superiors so that they recognize me/see value. Now my work has a sense of dread to it. I watched my parents be workaholics growing up, so it’s all I know. I’m also goal-oriented and driven, so achieving a lot scratches that itch for me. But, it’s making me want to quit cause I’m burned out and depressed….im not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be helpful.

T.A.: I’m a certified life and weight coach and I work exclusively with lawyers. Here are my top 4 tips:
1. No sugar, no flour, no simple carbs, no processed food. This is all about controlling your insulin levels. If it had an eyeball or a leaf, you can eat it. If it comes out of a box, then no. This will lead to appetite correction and you won’t be hungry all the time.
2. Confine all your eating to a window of 8 hours or less (i.e., 8-4, 9-5, 11-7, etc.). Pick a window and stay as consistent with it as possible. When
The window closes, don’t eat anything but water, black coffee, tea, or unflavored mineral water. Again, this is to keep insulin levels as low as possible for as long as possible.
3. Eat only when hungry. Stop when full. Don’t eat because it’s “time for lunch”. Forget eating on the clock. Listen to your body.
4. Most important: write down what you will eat 24 hours in advance on paper. This keeps your pre frontal cortex firmly in charge of your eating decisions, and it makes much better choices than your amygdala does in the moment (“chips! We need chips!”). When tomorrow comes, eat only what’s on your paper.
You should lose 10-12 pounds in 6 weeks using this methodology. Good luck!!
Get out (masked) and walk for at least 30 mins, 3x a week. Seems trivial but it really is a game changer. Not just because of the increased calories you’ll but, but it will also start to burn, but it will likely also naturally lead you to making better calorie intake decisions once you start feeling and seeing the positive impacts.
I went from 220-205 during the same time. Home cooking, biking, and at home workouts helped.
Caloric deficit
Cut down food and calories. I have the same problem, had turned 235 LB and now back at 215 LB, in month or so. :-)
