Just wanted to post a word of encouragement/update.

Two weeks ago I posted in here asking for tips on how to ask for a reduced schedule. I am now back from maternity leave and am struggling with being away from our baby. I was so nervous to ask my firm for a reduced schedule but I am SO GLAD I did. It was a nonissue and now I’m going down to 75% billables until I am ready to return fulltime. I am so happy I asked!

Thank you for those who took time to send tips and encouragement!

You will not regret it! Love those babies up! Mine are all teens and I love that I took that time with them.

Can I give any more advice. Keep it that way even up into their teen years. The teens need you as much as the babies. Maybe even more. So, just plan on that 75% forever. If you can, of course. But, don't think they need you less as they get older. They need you even more. Rides, friends, activities, etc.

Just advice from an old mom who loves her babies (who are now teens....)

Yah, my billable hour requirement has been reduced to 75%. Of course my salary has also been reduced in kind but we have been living on a reduced salary since I went on maternity leave so this isn’t a big change (salary wise).

I just talked to HR about reduced schedule since returning back to work on Monday. It sounds so much more doable now that I've asked the hard questions.
