Last year at my current school. It's been rough there, except for my amazing para and neighbor teacher. I'm excited to move to a new district, school, and kids. The new staff have been so welcoming. Any tips for how to focus all my energy on this fresh start without letting the baggage from my old school drag me down? I know it's not my problem anymore, but I want to give my new school and students my all right away. Any tips for making that mental switch?

Make a plan to change your theme to one you haven’t done before. That will start your year off completely differently. Maybe wrote down everything that’s made this year rough and then destroy it; shred it, burn it, whatever will give you closure. Use the summer to let everything from this year go. I never got a fresh start but I think that’s what I’d do.

Been there. One thing I did that helped a ton was not rehashing the old place too much with new coworkers. I gave myself space to process privately, but didn’t let the past steal the joy of this new beginning. Sounds like your new team is ready to welcome ALL the good energy you bring!

Set a plan for yourself and your students, don't dwell on your last school and you'll be just fine. I left my last school after 11 years and I'm so much better at my current school. I miss the kids and some of the staff, but feeling very appreciated in my new school.
