What is the best tool for hiring teachers?
Not at all. First, my wife got hired as an ER receptionist BECAUSE she was a teacher. Why? Dependability, ability to deal and think quickly with changing situations, dealing with angry clients/parents, and having to know and follow rules. The supervisor knew the rest of the skills could be trained, especially to somebody who has two degrees and undergoes constant PD. When it comes to employment outside of education, I think the biggest challenge is “translating” our critical skills into terms used in the traditional, non-teaching workforce.
I don’t worry about teachers being able to find employment outside of education. I do wonder why more don’t seek it though considering the state it’s in.
The health insurance benefits are amazing. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Having an underlying health condition and having most of medication and supplies paid for by 100%-district-covered health insurance is amazing. Putting up with some students’ idiotic behaviors and attitudes once in a while at school is a small price to pay.
I love my job, even through these hard times. The students need us the most right now. I won't be leaving my postion for a long time...
Yes. I wonder what I can do and about job security. I wonder if I will miss summers off. I wonder if I can find something more flexible… I wonder a lot of things…
honestly, i think about leaving a lot more now, especially because the COVID gap generated students who are pretty disrespectful and because we have to do so many extra jobs, other than teaching, because of the gaps and the shortage. I have been looking for remote jobs and it's been so tough... I've been pretty worried about finding a job outside of Education, but I've also been trying to be hopeful!
There’s plenty of jobs out there. With the degrees we have I have no doubt finding a much better paying job won’t be an issue.
It comes to mind sometimes when I’m burned out. I don’t know how to do anything else, really. But most of the time I love my job, so I don’t worry.
If I was younger I might try occupational or physical or speech therapy. This would give me a private practice and I’d work in a school also because I do live all of our vacations.
I plan on leaving in a couple of years. I currently also work in e-commerce/free enterprise space. It’s basically doing marketing for an online wholesaler/retailer…. You get out what you put in. I do it from home after work hours (I work full-time + this position). You could make it something you do full-time or part-tune. I make about $2000 a month part time working about 10 hours a week. Feel free to message me if you want more info :)
Same lines, different MLM. Smh. I'm glad you will stop fibbing now.
God willing, I plan to retire at the end of this school year! I am excited and a little …
I’m currently, actively searching.
Still looking at alternatives, but worry that there isn’t anything else right now
I always think about, and have looked into, vendors who supply educational products to our district. 👍🏼
I’m not worried at all. I teach at a vocational high school so I have my grade/shop as a backup and have heavily thought about either going back to the industry or looking at being adjunct faculty at a community college
Trade**** not grade
me
I’m not leaving. So the OP is obviously a poorly worded premise.
