Isn’t SM AP equivalent? Yes I understand the difference between the firms…I’ve worked at both. But that’s 2 level difference not 1. I bailed on Manager promotion at AS to be ASC at McK. Not sure I’d do the same for SM…

It’s not once you factor in bonus
Just a data point. I exited BCG and now work in tech. When I recruit from consulting ACN won’t be considered. No offense to them just we have too much talent to choose MBB is now a must.
MCK!
McK
Mck
McKinsey obviously
Just the titles is not in enough to tell.
The lazy choice is obvious, but you have not said much to consider.

I have worked at both. McK hands down.
My 2 cents having worked at both. If you know what you to specialize, then heavily consider what both firms are good at. If it’s tech, I actually think on average Accenture is better and is sometimes more favorable when looking at Associate McK vs SM ACN. It is true if you are gunho about corp strat and s&o than maybe at Accenture it will not be as easy to move. However, my experience is that Accenture SMs will definitely have better exits than an associate for non core strategy roles. As an example, I left as an EM from McK for FS roles in payments and am struggling to get the same roles as when leaving Accenture. Though right now is a tougher environment so that may play into it too.

Once you get in and establish yourself opportunities can open up - likely your tech background will open a few doors too. I actually do a lot of tech-focused work in tandem with Service Ops.
