Moms — would love some advice from those a few months ahead of us 🙏

Our baby is 10 months old. He was breastfed until about 6 months and used to take a bottle, but we stopped around 7–8 months and now he completely refuses bottles.

He will drink milk from a spoon, and we’re slowly introducing cups, but it takes quite a bit of time to feed him this way.

A few questions for those who’ve been through this:

• How important is bottle training at this stage?
• If he never takes a bottle.. contd

I was on your shoes when my LO suddenly started refusing bottles around 11 months. Then learned it’s for good. Often parents start bottle weaning around 11 months as it’s not recommended to encourage the habit through toddler hood for developmental reasons. So he’s doing you a favor, don’t stress. Open cups are totally fine. You can also introduce straw cups or bottles whatever he likes to use.

A few questions for those who’ve been through this:

• How important is bottle training at this stage?
• If a baby never takes a bottle again but learns to drink from cups instead, is that totally fine developmentally?
• Could bottle refusal affect sleep training in any way?
• If bottle training really is important, any tricks that actually worked for you? We’ve tried dark room, minimal distractions, offering before he gets too hungry, etc. — he just refuses.

Part of me wonders if we should just focus on cup skills instead of fighting the bottle battle.

Would love to hear what worked (or didn’t!) for others.

3 kids and my younger 2 never took the bottle. I breastfed each kid for over a year and thankfully worked from home while they were little, with nanny support. They learned to drink from a straw cup around 6 months. No other issues, good sleepers.

My youngest never took bottle. She actually had a lip tie and by the time we resolved that, she just didn’t want bottles, so we went right to straw cups. I nursed her until I was satisfied she could drink from a straw cup well enough to get her fluids. You could see if there is an underlying issue (tongue or lip tie) that is making bottles hard for baby, but it could also be nothing and just that your baby doesn’t want to.

Bottom line: bottles are not a developmental necessity. Move to straw cups and see how it goes. If you can stand the mess, open cups are fine too but my anxiety did not allow for that to be an option.

Does anyone else feel that the more content someone puts in their LinkedIn headline, the more full of it they are? I say this as someone with a bunch of stuff lol but at least it’s all at one company and accurate.

I’m talking mostly about two kinds of people. 1. The influencer who is actually unemployed, but lists 25 BS things they do
2. The brand collector, who writes “ex-“ for every former company they worked at and school they went to. Maybe less full of it but still insufferable.
