"Most of the public sector workforce doesn't know" is so trivializing. Comment or react to this post if you know what generative AI is and don't think the problems with it have anything to do with the public sector workforce not knowing what it can do.

My pub sec clients all want it—but it’s not Fedramp/DOD Impact certified yet.
When it is (currently in progress), they’ll get it.
A large percentage of the public sector workforce at all levels of government is at or nearing retirement age. It’s unrealistic to expect them to get jazzed about a technology that likely won’t be in widespread use while they’re still working.
And, the article notes a fixation in government tech circles around cyber and data security. That’s because the government has a lot of catching up to do in that space and it’s consuming a lot of time and $$. Government does change very slowly.
I'm in this area and while a lot of people don't really care or want to learn, the people behind the wheel do care, and either have expertise or are building those skills and gaining that knowledge.
Who cares if budget analyst Janice, 4 years past retirement isn't interested in AI, I'm frankly less worried about her apathy than intern Joe who thinks it'll be great to upload a bunch of PII into free Claude to speed up his work.
