Ok be honest, candidates. I really love this set of questions, I’ve been considering shifting my current interview style to these questions - I think they really give you an idea of who this person would be within the work setting. But the questions almost feel too deep for a recruiter to ask. What would you think if a recruiter took a different path and asked these questions instead of the usual ones?

Modern problems require modern solutions.

Hi fishes! I volunteer with The Art of Good, a creative collective helping small businesses affected by the pandemic. They are seeking a little help from a media professional. Need an SEM POV for a small business looking to change their name and relaunch their brand. This is non-paid. More about giving back while in-between gigs. :) If you can help out or want to learn more, please reach out to me via LinkedIN. Thank you!! www.linkedin.com/in/karenkohn/

Because they don't want you to go direct.

Oh right! Sorry!
I will holster my outrage.
You can still go direct if you don’t agree to them submitting your info
If you’ve already worked with that agency before, then it doesn’t make sense to have a recruiter submit you when you’re already in the system / network.

You can definitely go direct-to-agency but unless you have a legit contact at the agency itself, there’s a good chance your submission will be ignored since the internal talent manager hired the external recruiter to weed through the talent ahead of time. Therefore the internal manager will most likely open emails the external recruiter sends; rather then unsolicited ones like yours... of course that’s not a definite, but in my experience that has been the case.

What Consultant1 said.
Independent recruiters get paid if/when they get you hired. If they immediately post, “This is a job at DDB.” Nothing stops you from saying “Oh, I have a friend there, I’ll just have them pass my resume along.” And nothing stops their recruiter competition from chasing down this lead with their own list of candidates.
