My kids now have mobiles for a few years (ages that you speak of and upwards) and it’s not necessarily the content I’m worried about but I’ve noticed their attention span or ability to occupy their own mind is almost completely gone. The 30 second clip phenomenon on the social media apps have made them into almost mindless zombies so on that experience alone, I’d not give a 12yo a phone if I had my time back.
I heard a small couple of years ago that CEOs etc of the large tech companies didn’t allow their kids screen devices until 16yo. I can now understand why.
Yes at least the plan is same. My kiddo is too young for phone as of now but that is how it will be unless I see that emotional maturity that you are talking about. I fear they will still have access to stuff via friends phone and all but that is outside our control. At least it won’t be always on phone/apps. There is still dangers of online activities but consistent open communication would be important. Good luck as a parent of almost a teenager but as a parent got to try! It is a tough world! I feel you.
