AWS cloud application architect. Had an on-site interview with AWS a few days ago and just got an email saying they want to talk to me about next steps. The role is cloud application architect but I want to ask them about the senior cloud application architect role. I have all the relevant experience for that role and feel like I’d be a better fit for that senior role. How should I approach this conversation? Is this even possible? Amazon

Obviously, there's so much that goes into career decisions like this: What is the overall work environment like? Are you remote or onsite? Is the product-growth hockey stick or... not? This decision has so many factors... here are my thoughts.
1) Yes, a Product Manager should definitely be able to do the role of Product Owner, if they can't they're not much of a PM. If you like the PO role, consider developing your skills to become a PM. (https://www.thoughtspot.com/data-trends/product-management/product-owner-vs-product-manager)
2) If you take the Scrum Master role, look for opportunities to scale your impact and help other teams improve their Agile practices. Use the opportunity to uplevel your skills, demonstrate leadership by identifying and solving organizational problems, and most of all, figure out what your boss' boss cares about and work to deliver those objectives.
3) But my biggest advice is... invest in yourself and be willing to take risks/leaps of faith to get where you want to be in your career. About a decade ago, I asked to move to a new city. But, I liked my social life and where I lived, so I turned it down. Most likely I passed up on a promotion to Director -- something I hadn't really realized at the time... Knowing what I know now, I would haven't taken it. Yes... the move would have been challenging at first, but ultimately, I think things would have worked out. So think about what you want from your career and stay laser focused on making that happen...
Good luck!
If you can get the Scrum Master role, I’d go for it. You should be able to easily apply for PM positions out of that Scrum Master role in case you don’t end up liking it.

What's the difference between product owner and product manager?
Product managers report into a scrum master?
To me these are the thing. Product Manager is a position over a system, app etc. product owner is the role you take on a project or in Operations to prioritize decisions re what you want done next
This commonly happens, companies consider it trimming the fat. If I wasn’t technical I’d have a broad skillset analyst, scrum master, product owner, project manager to fill many roles. Also what I see is the product owner isn’t a hired role it’s a functional role assigned as job duties to an existing role. If I was technical I’d go toward technical product manager, solution architect, engagement manager, delivery manager. The technical side pays much better.
