My day is so packed, that I can never find a whole hour in a stretch to spend on walking and getting these 10K steps in. How I do it is to break it up as plenty of 10 - 20 minute walks and I guess I'm able to hit 9-10K every day. Do you know if it has the same benefits as walking for an entire hour? I'm not too privy to the science behind this but it seems to me that it doesn't have the same weight loss effect. Am I right or wrong to think of it in this way?

You’re not wrong to assume it might differ, but I'm pretty sure intermittent walking is equally effective for most goals. In fact, it may enhance calorie burn further because by breaking it up you're active for more time than getting it all done in one hour. That can really rev up the calorie burn from NEAT.

Agree with above, it can be equally effective unless your goal is endurance. I alternate between speed and endurance training (running) so I try to get 2-3 days a week that are at least 30, ideally 45-60 min, stretches.
Congrats on committing to movement, any way you hit your target is amazing!

The only thing that really matters is the amount of time you're spending being active. I don't think your body really cares if that exercise is broken up or done all at once as long as it gets done. How long have you been doing this??

There is no science behind the 10k number. It was made up by a Japanese pedometer company to sell their product. Hope this helps!

You can definitely start getting specific if you are trying to reach certain goals. For me, everything was about how do I keep this up long term? If getting activity a little here and there through the day works, keep it up! If you are only concerned about weight loss focus on diet and treat exercise as something great for your body.

I agree with everyone above. Its all about getting your steps in no matter how you have to do it. It doesn't matter if you do it all in one walk or you break it up throughout the day. As long as you are being active that is what matters.
