West LA is a bit less expensive for nice places that’s still on the west side! Pretty young crowd and walkable to Santa Monica

Are you looking to rent or buy OP? I personally don’t think I’d be able to buy on the west side in the mid term. I plan on living in LA for the long term so rented on the west side until I could afford to buy on the east side. I only have to go into the office occasionally though so the commute to the west side is manageable.
Yea probably should have prefaced that I’m talking with respect to an actual SFH not a condo / townhouse.
Agree with Deloitte that you could get a condo / townhouse for that. IMO your value prospects are better with a SFH but a condo is doable
Live as close to Santa Monica as possible! The 10 west is a nightmare in the mornings so anything more west on the west side would be the best for commute reasons. Santa Monica is very walkable and typically a nice easy going beach vibe. If you don’t mind traffic (I’m talking LA traffic, not normal traffic from other parts of the country), then West Hollywood is a lot of fun if you like going out. But it’s far from the freeway so that adds significantly to your commute if you need to get all the way to the beach.
Thanks a bunch!
I came from Chicago. Get ready…it’s crazy more expensive here. But 100% worth the cost. I plan on staying here longterm. I’ve started in West Hollywood, but that would be a nightmare commute to Santa Monica.
Long story short, anything near Santa Monica will be expensive. Like, twice what you would pay in Chicago. I call it the sunshine beach tax.
Welcome!!! LA is amazing.
Thanks, excited for the chance to conquer the west !
