My family still does daily wordle and it hits close to home since the author was just building something to keep his wife entertained and it turned into $1m. I bet we all hope we’ll fall into a happy accident like that.

A lot of the things that we use every day came from random people trying to solve a problem or meet a need and it turned into something amazing. I love that. You never know when inspiration will strike.

I love that too. It’s a fun game to go about your day and try to spot them. A few I can think of: my tub shroom (catching my fallen hair in the shower drain) and my scrubby daddy.

Hah it's funny you say that. I've been building a bunch of word games myself over the past month, primarily to get familiar with AI tools (mostly for design - I'm terrible at it) and because I love word games. The first one took way too long to build out, the next two only took about a day since I solved a lot of the big problems the first time around and basically templated the solutions. None of them are going to be the next Wordle, but it's still a lot of fun.

That’s really cool!! Don’t lose hope there was also 2048 that went viral

Hi all - just joining and looking for some guidance! I am currently in an IT internship position (making pretty solid money considering) and following this summer I will stay on part time during my senior year (discussing a full-time job offer after already). I’m getting my computer science degree, so I would like to do something more technical in the workplace when I graduate. How do I advocate myself for that to my manager without sounding unappreciative of the position I’m in?

Is it common to negotiate software engineer salary at smaller companies? I know it’s common at FAANG, but what about for companies with around 200 engineers? What should I reasonably expect from a junior?

I manage a junior developer that's been with the company for about 18 months. I end up providing them of TON of support. I need to give them extremely detailed instructions or they fail. For bugs, I need to point them to a specific function that's causing the bug. For new features, I'm basically writing their method signatures and defining their test cases.

I've tried asking them to do more on their own, but when I do, they fail spectacularly.

Currently I work on database engine C++ code and have seen some roles that indicate continuing down this stream would be possible with my skillset.
