I realized this back in late 2018. I thought about Ghana and other places in Africa, but the infrastructure, corruption, and instability have deterred me. Also too many of our brothers and sisters do not see us as African enough and try to exploit us. If there was a community of African American diaspora being established, I would consider it for safety and well-being there. Otherwise, I'm thinking about other places that are friendly towards African Americans. I recommend starting with research and a visit to understand the culture, their rules, and economy to see if its a place you can call home and sustain yourself financially and physically. Meet expatriates there as well. Then, put a plan together to get there.
Everyone needs an exit plan and this administration has proven that for me and to quickly put myself in a position to make the right moves. My exit plan is Mexico, I recently got temporary residency there. I likely won't make an official move for a few years (unless forced to) but wanted to get it now while it was still pretty easy. My advice would be look into the places that you would go, even if you don't make the move tomorrow work towards the plan today.
You’re not alone. I’ve been quietly talking to friends about getting a second passport or at least dual residency somewhere. I think step one is figuring out where you'd actually feel safe, not just legally, but emotionally.
-savings in an internationally accessible account (like HSBC)
-updated passports for my family
Everything else can be figured out on the go.
Do you have other international banks you recommend?
