I don't have one and I honestly never have. I have never had anyone ask me why I didn't have one. I would go ahead and take it off, I don't think it is necessary.
I've heard recruiters talk about how they give a resume a very fast scan the first time they see it. So it's to your advantage to have a summary at the top of the page so they can't miss it. You have to make sure your resume is very clear to someone at first glance.
What should the summary say?
I don’t have either one on my mine. Over 17 years of experience in UW. Not necessary. At the top, beside my contact information. I have a bullet point list of key skills.
Short summary is nice. Objective statements haven’t been recommended for a while.
