How do I pivot from a broker to any job in tech?
I'm curious what the average salary is for an Associate Agent. I'm licensed & do everything after the sale is made as well as refer new business. I have 14 years in the industry but have been at the current company less than a year, so I know that plays a part as well. Anyone in a like-position by chance?State Farm Allstate Travelers

I was a claims associate for 1year at another company and applied for a underwriter role at state farm with no underwriting experience. You do not need experience to get a new role as a underwriter, just need to be able to demonstrate how your current skills are transferable to the underwriter role.
Is there an education program at your company to obtain one of the insurance designation at the Institute?
Perhaps CPCU?
I worked as a Commercial Auto Adjuster for 7 months, worked on obtaining a ARM, with the intention of earning a CPCU. Which opened quite a few jobs for me within the company. I managed to transfer into Actuarial, which works very closely with UW.
Don’t be discouraged by the estimated time length to complete a CPCU designation. I completed my ARM in a month and half, which is half of CPCU.
No education program. It’s a smaller insurance company that does work comp only. I will look into obtaining a ARM to start as my first designation. Thank you
I think Travelers and Nationwide has a UW Training Program if you're interested in moving to UW with no UW experience. I've seen some of my friends also move over to subrogation or SIU and they love it there too.
The Hartford has one too! We have a lot of claims people join UWing
I had a friend who did that, and then ended up going back to claims haha. But he did really like it while he was doing it.
Best wait to make the transition would be through your current employer as a career advancement move. The requirements are usually more relaxed when transitioning within the same company. You will still have to prep for the interview by knowing the key requirements of the role and meeting most of the asks. Here is a great interview prep video. https://youtu.be/2uM7gYuOvr4
I moved from adjusting to associate Underwriter after 10 months. I think I was lucky to get the advise from my mentor to move early on my career otherwise it would get so expensive!
I also moved out of WC Adjusting to UW after 2 yrs. I was also fortunate enough to have mentors who told me if UW was my interest, to get out the sooner the better because of $$$ or I’ll get stuck.
You may have to start as an assistant UW or associate UW. I know several people who have made this transition, but in P&C. Your claims background is a huge asset in underwriting, in my opinion.
Very intetested in this pivot. Not sure if my company offers training for this but I have been looking into it.
