Microsoft is hiring an account executive and I’m really interested in the role. I have B2B sales experience in a different industry, but my skills include lead generation, prospecting, account management, negotiating, etc (all within the C Suite and other decision makers).
Would appreciate knowing if this is something I have a shot at with no tech sales experience and what I could expect for promotional opportunities and compensation.
Thanks for the help!

That's really cool. I have a friend that I met when I was living abroad who did that as her full-time job. She said sometimes it was pretty frustrating, especially when parents would schedule tutoring sessions for their children who are way too young, like three years old. How is an online tutor supposed to actually engage with a three-year-old through a Zoom call? But for the most part, she loved it. I've been thinking about doing it as a side job but I haven't taken the plunge yet.
My niece does online tutoring, she’s 9 and can barely pay attention, I can’t imagine younger kids!
I do but the pay is so small. $10 per hour. I save it to use on vacation.
Yeah, the pay is not very motivating.
That balance is so real. I used to tutor part-time while managing chronic fatigue, and the unpredictability was the hardest part. One thing that helped was setting availability blocks with buffer days, like only opening up Monday-Wednesday and keeping Thursday-Friday flexible in case I needed rest. It cut my hours a bit, but gave me more control.
Thank you for sharing this! Buffer days sound like a good way to add in more flexibility. I’ll have to try that.
That's really awesome. Can I ask what the company is? I am actually super interested in doing something like this, I have a lot of teaching experience (and a little ESL teaching experience). This definitely seems like a tough struggle, but also seems like a better fit than most remote jobs probably right? You could also look into freelance writing, since that is really on your own time.
I work for VIPKid and Cambly. I like that these companies let you make your own schedule, but the pay is low. Tutoring has its challenges, but like you said, it’s probably a better fit than most jobs. Freelance writing sounds like another great option. I really need to look into that more.
I'm thinking about teaching as well. Where did you get your cert from if you have one? Looking for a program...
I got my TESOL from International Open Academy. They sometimes have discounts available on Groupon.
