Our school is going one-to-one with Chromebooks next year, any advice or tips? Anything you love?

Don’t assume anything! Teach everything. Especially in the beginning. Don’t take anything for granted. Logging in will literally be like an all day event. Invest the proper time in the beginning of the year and it will save you a HUGE amount of time later in the year. And be sure to have a good acceptable use policy and train them early on. What is appropriate and what’s not. Lay a strong foundation. Trust me. It saved me!

If you can set up your classroom like a typical classroom. I have a meeting area. So when the come in the log in and then go to “the rug” or meeting area. I model what I want them to do. Then I send them back. If they aren’t listening during the mini lesson. I let them know they will have less time on the computer. I have never used screen capture. My system has worked for me

I can’t figure out which scenario is best: log in to google classroom when you enter the class (best for timing) or wait until I have presented the lesson. If they log in, it’s extremely hard to get everyone’s attention (so I got screen capture software )and they miss half the instructions and I have to repeat. We move ahead much faster when they log in as they enter and it keeps them busy immediately. I sometimes post the do now which is answered on google classroom. Maybe if they close the chrome book during the lecture...my tech class has lap tops or desk tops.

I have desk top computers....when I use the screen capture, they scream every time....I think the issue could be that I need better discipline

Assign students to their chromebook is helpful for students to upload apps they download for classroom use. Also bring the tech department in the loop on apps so they can help streamline the process.

Yes assigned computers help with linked data and makes everything faster.

Not everything needs to be on the Chromebook immediately. Welcome it into your instruction at your own pace, otherwise it's chaos. Set rules, even act out scenarios of inappropriate cb behavior. They should understand it's a tool, not a toy. My students kept holding their CBS by the screen, so I equated it to holding a baby by the head -- you just don't do it. Clean your CBS! Teach them how to clean and organize emails. All these little things matter.

As for apps, screencastify and wevideo are great for recording. Newsela is a great news source. Download the classroom extension to easily post assignments. A post it note app -- I just use Google Keep. A grammar check -- gradeproof or grammarly. Best of luck!

We use them in our elementary school. Each homeroom has a cart. Students grab their chromes in homeroom and take them to each class. Return them to the cart at the end of the day.

The library loads the carts in Aug. Chromes have barcodes and students' names taped on each chrome.

I monitor usage each period with go guardian.

I send sites that are misused to IT and they blacklist these sites.
