I’ve seen this done with small groups in a class, but having a type of signaling system. Like three colors of plastic cups, green meaning they’re good, yellow meaning there is a question but they can still work, and red meaning they are stuck and can’t do anything else. I’ve seen small signs used for this too

I agree with the brainstorming everything like the previous replies. After that, I’d spend an entire class period at the very beginning of the year (as in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th day of school) to run as an orientation of all of these problems. This should help to familiarize students in advance. Next, I’d have a clearly define policy/procedure for students on how to handle issues in the future.
