“Always use public transportation to save money.” I love a good metro system, but after dragging my suitcase up way too many stairs in Tokyo and getting lost in Bangkok’s bus system, I happily splurge on taxis or rideshares now—especially after a long flight. Sometimes, convenience is worth the extra cost.
Yeah I always find the laundry idea dumb unless your trip is really long. Like why would I waste half a day on laundry and drag my clothes to a laundromat? Especially when dryers don’t exist in a lot of places.
I'm pretty sure the people who came up with the "pack light" advice weren't actually doing laundry, but paying for the hotel or someone else to do it.
Pack light, and wash undies in the sink doing laundry while traveling makes sense for trips over 2 weeks long.
Redeyes work if you can sleep on planes. Noise cancelling headphones, eyeshades, and a cannabis gummy works for me.
Bad travel advice “you can always ship it home” when buying souvenirs or whatnot. That’s often very expensive, probably only worth it for a very special piece of art that the gallery shops for you. If you accumulate a lot of stuff, just get another bag and check it.
You can still pack light and travel using carry on and not do laundry. I can manage a trip up to 9 days that way.
Obviously the laundry tip depends on the specific situation, but in general, why would you even think to do your laundry yourself when you can have the hotel do it or drop it off at a fluff & fold?
And, assuming the flights are international, that's why you get business class with lie-flat seats, so you can arrive well-rested and refreshed.
I travel with a carryon only and do laundry in the hotel by washing my stuff in the sink. Pack clothes that dry fast. I’ve never spent time in a laundromat while traveling! Also, places in Europe (since you mention Paris) have laundry services where you can drop off your dirty clothes and come back later to it all folded for you. They charge by the kg.
