Procreate has drawn a line in the sand against incorporating AI, denouncing Adobe for doing so. While it's admirable that Procreate stands for artist integrity, I don't believe Adobe is destroying artistry by integrating AI. Adobe's focus has shifted towards creative production rather than pure artistry, reflecting the need for speed in creativity-driven work. There's a time and place for AI in creation, which doesn't diminish the craft itself.

Maybe Adobe should worry about their software not breaking with basic updates and leave AI to the smart folks
I love the debates surrounding AI. The more I learn about the possibilities AI offers in the field of creativity/art AND learn about neuroscience and the human brain, the more clearly I see how AI is just a tool and not a replacement or threat for human creativity. What AI does very well is offer volume in exploration and mashups, but only follows a very linear, uncurated, unevaluated set of results.
We humans are the only ones who can assign value to the results, apply push and pull to relate it to the human experience, ask the “what if” questions for connecting dots in a way that resonates for people, acknowledges humor and the common experience. AI is devoid of meaning and context—all of which is uniquely human. Even the debate about “original art” and how the human brain takes everything it consumes/experiences and draws “inspiration” for new creation is not so different from how AI does the same—we don’t require human inspiration to be footnoted and credited as we require AI to be. And humans can force and be intentional about differences to distinguish inspiration from copying, which we can also choose to do for AI results. It’s a fascinating discussion. AI consumes and learns just like we do, the difference is internal commonality among humans, intention, motivation, desire, the ability to “work backward”, see meaning and shape perspective and understanding in a way that connects humans to other humans. We absolutely have cornered the market on all that. AI has no “clue” where all that is concerned. The human brain is the most exceptionally and impossibly complex piece of machinery we’ve ever encountered.
Maybe, but I don’t feel like we should doubt capitalisms rush to the bottom and appetite for the lowest common denominator. Sure, it can’t truly create, but when “good enough” can be accomplished for much less in a world where ads live for such a short amount of time, it will definitely take jobs. Higher level jobs will exist, but it will certainly be fewer and entry jobs or lower funnel ones that people could enter the industry through likely won’t exist.
