Awesome if you're someone who values anything else other than quality of life.
Cut throat culture, no long-term anything, many people here (professionals) are just passers-by, which spills over to the local social microsystem and mass psychology.
If you're younger good to try it out, but as you grow older and priorities change you see that this place is pretty much $$$ above all.
Pros: always something to do, always something to eat. Museums, theater, music, sport, clubs, you'll find other people with similar interests/background
Cons: smells constantly, people are assholes (I'm one of them), expensive, the extreme weather mentioned above, dating to date is fine dating to find someone is horrendous
Subway at rush hour is not any worse than sitting in a car stuck in rush hour traffic. Generally I love not having to deal w having a car and basically being driven around everywhere. And even accounting for rush hour, you'll likely get home faster in NYC than many other cities. That said, the weather is the second worst thing about nyc after $$$. Mild days are few and far between. Nyc loves those extremes of wayyy too hot or wayyy too cold
Too many options- shopping mentality
Pros / you are in one of the most exciting cities in the world
My uber from the airport to the hotel this evening reminded me A good test to see if you're a good fit for NYC. Do you talk to your uber driver? If you enjoy that do not move there. If you enjoy sitting in silence on your phone, continue on
Work more play more. We just don't sleep
I've heard the subway at rush hour is a nightmare. Other than that, awesome city
There's nothing better than a New York Minute
I'll date you
I would say u meet a lot of cool ppl, and ppl r open to meeting each other...but it's really hard to make friends unless u happen to work with really cool people.
A pro, the nightlife and options are awesome. You can be 50 find a social scene for u and ur friends
Better than Seattle, the Seattle Freeze is real y'all
How is dating to find someone horrendous?
Do the young professionals there tend to work more play less?
Agreed dating is a little odd sometimes - people are eager to trade up, and every once in a while a very wealthy person swings through. But it's better than LA where you spend a lot of time in the car.
