Yes. It’s challenging to navigate pretty much everything during this time. You aren’t alone in feeling this.

There’s a difference between actual threats to psychological safety in the workplace and allowing fear of external events to dictate our mindset. If we constantly focus on everything that could go wrong, we give up control over our own emotions and actions. Instead of feeding into that, why not focus on what’s within your control—how you show up, how you engage, and how you navigate challenges? Fear isn’t the same as reality, and it certainly shouldn’t dictate how we function at work.

Making threats about someone’s employment is considered harassment
So, here’s the “reality”—we’re seeing examples everyday of our “leader” stepping on people, not giving a sh-t about families, or international goodwill in the name of saving government money. Efficiency isn’t broad cuts in spending, rather it’s being selective, creative, resourceful and smart, to make the money go farther to accomplish MORE. That takes careful study, understanding, dedicated intent and leaning on subject matter experts to hear their ideas and deciding the best course of action. Some cuts may be in order, but this guy is so stupid to have allowed cutting critical nuclear arsenal workers and then needing to call them back because they were cut clearly without thought. That’s effing unacceptable, irresponsible and scary. With all the deregulation planned, a ton of things are going to get scary. And without accountability or transparency, he answers to no one and certainly not to the American people.
And all this sets the tone in industry and the workplace. So worker safety, public safety, food safety, transportation safety, child safety, medical practice safety, pharma safety, on and on…will all be less safe.
Appropriate staffing and regulation serves a purpose because chasing profit and ensuring reasonable public safety are often at odds with each other.
That someone finds this funny makes my point further. Thank you.
Exactly. Thanks for sharing CS1!
Private sector looks to gov for cues on legal latitude and what they can get away with. Norms are fluid, shaped by the powers that be.

Genuinely wondering: What are you afraid for at work? Like what are specific things that could happen that give you anxiety?
I would recommend to read, hear and see different things. It’s one thing to be informed and we should definitely acknowledge what is happening, but certain algorithms and echo chambers are built to give you a distorted view on reality and even more anxiety. Political leaders and certain groups prey on that.
Yep you nailed it, you'll be fine
It feels different because the rhetoric is relentless. Let’s face it, news networks profited big time under trump during first time. Time to double down.
Time to bring back The Fairness Doctrine tbh
Ask HR if they can build you a safe space.
Mean spirited jokes are indeed what we get more of with an administration touting a bully-mentality, a narcissistic and opportunistic “what’s in it for me” approach to “diplomacy”, that has carefully placed greedy, selfish, sycophantic yes men/women in their orbit.
Another heartfelt thank you for illustrating the points that started this thread.
Sorry but this all feels like you're being affected by the media you consume, more than by anything hsppening in government. If you give yourself a two-week hiatus from news, and focus on your work, your family, your friends, exercising, volunteering, being kind to yourself, I sincerely believe you will feel better. Also hopefully you have someone to talk to, personally or even better a therapist?
The only example of our industry being affected that I've seen (outside of macro economic tides, which are always with us) is potentially Droga, and indirectly. That's because Accenture gets 17% of its North American revenue from the federal government, which is now looking to terminate many consulting contracts.
Holy hell, what are you on about?? This is called splitting in psychology. You're freaking deranged
