Agencies are starting to partner with IBM Watson! Facebook bots are worth seriously considering as well.
It's not just hype. They are looking at Facebook messenger and are emulating things like WeChat in china. It's much more sophisticated than you think.
Technically a chat bot can be a loose definition of any AI that communicates via IM.
AI will see exponential growth. To say it will be 10 years before we see it in advertising is nuts. We've already used AI at Droga. Uber are already rolling out robot taxis with AI doing the driving. There are growing number of predictions that FIFTY PERCENT of current US jobs WILL NOT EXIST for humans in as little as 15 or 20 years from now (because AI/robots will be doing them instead). So hold onto your hats, peeps, things are about to get real sci-fi, and probably dystopian.
Fair point , I suppose I don't have as much visibility into practical uses for chat bots and AI. We've certainly pitched chat bot ideas and done some concepting around them with the FB team but it's been fairly primitive. I'm more skeptical about brands jumping on board any time soon to spend the sort of time and resources it requires to get it right. I mean these guys are still buying banner ads by the millions and build terrible brochure mobile apps that have no functionality.
Anyone remember SmarterChild... Classic
They don't seem quite there yet but we're all jumping on it cause it's shiny and new. Remember years ago augmented reality was a hot trend but it wasn't far enough along to work well so it didn't really get that big. But then Pokemon used it in a really intuitive and creative way, and BAM! I'm thinking we're a few years from worthwhile chat bot campaigns and maybe 10 years from AI in advertising. That's just an opinion tho!!
We take the space very seriously and the implications to the way we engage with customers digitally are huge.
But watsonit for me?
Chat bots are the definition of HYPE. Customer service via sms 🙄.... leave it to the valley kids to proclaim every innovation another Alexander Graham Bel telephone.
Yep. Billions. Oh and check out Apple's new AppStore for iMessage only... 🚀🤖
As well.. Netflix Black Mirror...http://www.wired.co.uk/article/eterni-life-after-death-ai
Oh yeah Craig def billions in AI , but not specifically chat bots. I just can't see the value beyond servicing and the end of call centers
Chat bots as entertainment have been around forever. Think they have a pretty short shelf life. For customer service like dealing with Your cable bill etc... makes a lot of sense.
Seriously Martin Agency? It's the real deal and billions are being invested into the space. Especially enterprise and customer service.
Billions? 🤔
See such companies like API.ai, X.ai, Luka, Chatfuel, msg.ai, Howdy, Poncho, Run Dexter, Airwoot, KIT, Wit, promptapp, VirtuOZ just to name a few...
Leo... expand your mind a bit. The value at the end of call centers? Swing by the office one day and I'll show you the future. Commerce, discovery, mobility, service, banking, food, I can keep going. Apps and websites are not truly native mobile interfaces, they are clunky and hard to use with zero normalization. Chat is truly mobile, my grandmother can use it. Natural language over confusing navigation. China has been using it for a while, it's the future.

Both still require people to teach the machines. You can't just turn them on and expect them to understand what people are saying. They know the words but don't know what it means. Bots have always been a part of marketing, and there are lame executions, especially when they are used as ad vehicles and not service tools
