I agree with Assistant Manager 1 above. I absolutely hate the locked cases. They are such a pain in the rear to have to deal with.

It really depends on the item being locked. Most places in my location are over cased.

I recently went into a Duane reade and they have the Oreo cookies locked-OREOS! All of the deodorants, candy outside of the checkout line…I just don’t buy those items from those stores. It’s always a hassle to get staff to get something. I’ll go where I can pick it up off the shelf myself. I can’t speak to if it helps to thwart theft, but it sure annoys law abiding citizens

Locked cases can help protect high-risk items, but they definitely slow down the shopping experience and can hurt sales if overdone. It’s a tricky balance between security and keeping customers happy.
