Counter it with good taste for the good taste projects then use them for the bad taste projects. If you mean they are not good at being an AD, then help them get better 🤷🏻♂️
Well, bad taste is subjective no? Are we talking something truly horrendous? I think the first step would be to have a conversation with them and try to get on the same wavelength. Being part of a team sometimes involves setting your own ideas aside, at least partially.
Make an effort first to set expectations of your bar. Share work you like and why. Explain some of the issues you’re seeing in their work and give them a chance to correct it. If it’s truly not a fit you may need to fire them, but would really put in a few months of trying to teach/challenge them first and see if they can rise to the occasion.
Teach them better taste.
