I got mentored by world class ECDs who were very generous with their time, so I feel like it’s my responsibility to try and do the same
I’ve done this for people at lower levels. But never had a true mentor… feel like sending some this way?

Mentoring shouldn’t always be a one-way transfer of knowledge. It can be somewhat reciprocal, where both parties endeavor to help each other with something they’re more experienced in. Like any relationship, it should be mutually beneficial.

I agree. I learn a lot from my mentees. And, they are a great sounding board
If anyone charges you for mentorship - 🚩
I would love for people to seek out advice of senior leaders - I would be happy to share and provide guidance or problem solving. But seems like the entry to mids don’t have as much interest in that.

I do know of some cases of people who pay their mentors. I agree it is odd.
I would not be where I am in my life without having mentors. I always try to cultivate creatives on my teams and help them find the wins. It is sometimes surprising who is really open to trying it and who you will end up catching up with years later.
Give back? I've never been mentored by anybody. But I will freely offer this piece of advice to any young creative, get out of this dying industry as soon as you can.
I mentor with the “Talk to a CD” program. I block off 3 hours a week and people can set up 1/2 hour time blocks with me in that window.
Me tooooo! 😎 Trying to be the mentor I never had….and still don’t have.
Already do.
I mentor whenever possible and I never expect a cent – it's not why I do it. If you're a CD or ECD and consider charging for your sagely wisdom you really need to reexamine your values. Sheesh.

Luckily, it seems most of us do it as a way to give back and do not expect or want to be paid.
