Any one familiar with comp for a Portfolio Associate roll at PIMCO on their mortgage backed securities team? I’m looking at an offer and want make sure I’m in line with the average comp for the company and industry. Only 4 months of experience and offer is 98k w/ 10-20% bonus plus 15k relo/ sign on. Looking at Glassdoor, bonuses seem higher than quoted by the hiring manager. (No written offer yet they say they’re still working on it)

IMO it’s easier for a cover letter to be negative than positive. I never do them personally
Unless your resume is obviously not what most applicants look like (eg you are pivoting into a new industry / role) then I don't think a cover letter is necessary
I’ve reviewed thousands of resumes, interviewed hundreds, and now supporting a Human Capital team in PE. Do not include a cover letter that hasn’t been required unless you have something important to explain that you can’t work into your resume, i.e. a period of unemployment to take care of a sick family member. Otherwise, they didn’t ask for it because they don’t want to be bothered to have to read more than is necessary. They are looking at hundreds of applications and generally spend less than 10 seconds scanning a resume before deciding if someone is worth an initial call.

They seem a bit outdated. A simple email to a senior leader expressing your interest should do the trick
Thanks all!
