So, I have seen here and had conversations with my peers, and I figured a more organised way to asking this was worthwhile: is it better to hold out at a job and hope for merit raises, or find a new job where you can negotiate a higher starting wage?

I have found that merit raises never seem enough, and changing jobs have given me the biggest salary increases.

It’s been worth it for me to just stay put and get the raises. It’s not much for any one bump in pay, but altogether it definitely adds up.

It's almost always easier to get more money by changing jobs. Short of a significant promotion, those meaningful increases just don't happen internally. I try to move on every 4-5 years.

It depends on the person that you are when it comes to your career and how you want to move. I find it beneficial to stay with a company and get the raises and others find it way better to switch jobs for a higher pay.

Hi all! I work at a nonprofit and am looking to leave the organization. As I browse available positions in my area, I’m realizing there is a LOT of crossover between my current org and others, for example shared board members, folks who are on our board and employed at one of the institutions I’m interested in, etc.. Is there a way to say “my current org doesn’t know I’m looking, so please treat my interest with discretion” that doesn’t raise red flags? Thanks!

Anyone in Corp Dev M&A? Received verbal offer today and it was a total boner killer that sounds non negotiable. Offer came thru random guy in HR vs hiring mgr/director and seriously considering going around hr cause the guy sounded lazy asf.@

Would like to understand market comp for in office CD roles, 4+yrs m&a experience and 25-40 advisories under belt. It’s an F500. Basically a pay cut of like 60-75% lol, idk if they’re testing me or serious. Edit: Happy to give any additional details.
