This is definitely incorrect. If the admin told you that, they are probably trying to make their own programming easier by not providing a co-teacher. Go into the SESIS system (log in w your DOE info) and check if the students require co-teaching in your specific subject, and if they do, go back to your admin with a request that they provide the legally mandated services for each child. If they refuse, contact the union and/or encourage the children's parents to advocate for them. It's never easy, but remember, above all we are here for the kids!! And they deserve us advocating for them. Good luck! 😁
I have no idea the answer, but want to question what the point of ICT would be if that were correct. It should be the least restrictive special ed environment, not a class with a general ed teacher with an even higher special ed demand whose even more stressed out and less equipped to deal with the students.
I checked SESIS, but then was told by my admin that actually those recommendations don’t apply to “elective courses”- because I teach a foundations to algebra course instead of a regular core math course? Having trouble getting an answer from the union on this.
Thanks for your response. Yea that’s a crazy policy to me.
