I’m in my 40s and currently Manager. Prob D next year or 2 years and I personally don’t want to do Partner/Principal. In 10 years, I want to be thinking about winding down and doing flexible hours (my firm allows us to choose our working hours if we don’t want to be full time)

Not sure how partnership works at PwC but for our firm, you would want to be in that role min 10 years to get your money worth. Don’t let age be the thing that stops you, if that’s the path you want to pursue.
In the US, we go from SM directly to PMD; 1) Partner/Principal (equity), or 2) Managing Director (non equity). The firm recently introduced some new career designations to offer more career choices.
Yes ours is also 10 years. We go SM > D > P or MD.
