The Deloitte portal previously displayed Waiting for background result, but today it changed back to 'Offer in progress. What does this mean? Please help me understand.

I have an offer from EY GDS, joining date is September 1st. I really am willing to join with EY. I also have an offer from an XYZ company where the package is more. Can I ask EY HR to revise my package to match the highest package that I have?. Is there any chance that EY might reject my offer if I do so.
