I like teaching- it is all the other stuff that i don’t like. Teaching has changed so much over the last 5,10,15,20,25,30years that it just is not the same as when I started. I still love teaching students and being part of helping them grow, but the rudeness, apathy, and lack of basics in all areas is making it hard.
I always loved the kids. But the adults were something else.
Absolutely yes. I swear the older I get, the shorter summers feel.
NMMS1: I am sorry that you face rudeness, apathy, and the lack of basics. This is not your fault. I fault the school district and the admin for allowing this unacceptable behavior. They need to have the right stuff to say and demand in our schools we will not tolerate any inappropriate behavior. Our schools will uphold the standards of respect for all! By the way, the right stuff is aka balls!!
Nope I love seeing the students new and old!!! Starting fresh and hoping that this year goes awesome. (This is coming from a pessimist LOL)
I enjoy the summer and honestly, I don't generally look forward to going back to work, but does going back to work at the end of August or beginning of September make me regret my career choice? Ha! I have been off since mid June! My other working-stiff buddies have worked all summer; mostly sitting inside, maybe having a week or 2 off if they can manage to get away from their work load/boss. I will be totally honest and say that the long break in the summer was a very strong incentive for me to choose this career path. That being said, I know that I am going to make a difference in the lives of a lot of students in the coming months. Yes, our job has its downfalls LIKE ANY OTHER JOB, but we have it made in a lot of ways; too numerous to list here. Here's a though (and I'm talking to myself too): when you are angry, anxious, etc. about something, whether it is related to your job or not, make yourself think of 5 things you are thankful for. It has a way of putting the problem (which may indeed be legitimate) in perspective and making it much more manageable. God bless.
hahaha I can relate with you, but as soon as I meet with my class, I fall in love with my career again hhehe
Rising Star
The one time it happened, the feeling only lasted .7 seconds until the reality set in that if I had any other job, there would be no "going back" after summer break because there would be no summer break to come back from.
My sentiments, exactly.
Nope. Love my job!
Colorado High School 2: I can most certainly relate. :-)
Yes!
If you regret your career, why don't you change it?? Feeling anxious is a regular feeling for lots of teachers for the beginning of a new school year. Reminder, you crushed it last year, and you can do it again!!!!!
Nope! You know, if you don’t like it, you should really find another job. Your governor should.
EST1: Good for you!!! Have a great year!!! I know your kids are anxious to be with you in the new school year! Blessings.
