I got a remote L6 SWE offer at Google but the RSUs are too low for that level ($625k over 4 years), could not negotiate it higher. I’ve accepted the offer but trying to be hopeful that I could make it more equitable in the future if I perform well. Are stock refreshers based on the initial RSU grant or solely based on performance? Google

So now you have ADs, Directors and Sr. Directors who’ve never shipped real applications in their lives. Never written good code. Never stayed up fixing a broken deployment.. They came up managing tickets and contractors. That was fine when India was just a support center.

Nothing's gonna change. My manager who joined 8 months after me got promoted to AD in just 2 years while I left with no promotion for 4 years. It's all about visibility and not impact.

You should leave for a better job. The lack of promotion not only affects morale, it affected my expected CTC while negotiating with companies. I joined VZI at a pretty good salary and after stagnating for 4 years, my salary barely grew 40% and even with a 40% hike offer during my recent switch, it fell less than what Engr III Clst with my experience were making at VZI.
Your rating depends on how visible you are in meetings, not what you actually built. The architect in the room who knows exactly what needs to happen has zero political power. The senior leader who doesn’t understand the problem makes the call anyway based on what his boss thinks
Contractors get the worst of it. Same vendors, year after year. Cheap by design. They’d get handed the messy work, have no say in timelines, pull weekends regularly — and the moment something went wrong, they were out. Not the manager. Not the lead. Just the contractor. Blame game and credit stealing.
Some of those architects and senior engineers are great. They built good products often in spite of everything working against them. They deserved better leadership and better recognition. senior leaders mostly dont care. Chamchagiri wins
So when US asks to layoff people. How is it surprising when these same inept leaders don't know what to build or whom to fire. They will just vomit what they get from top and ask us to create the next GPT, Sonnet or Gemini 😂

So, why do folks stay in Senior Engineer roles for ages? They claim that making a strong business case gets you promoted. But honestly, it's often easier if you're tight with your boss.
