Yes, what SM1 said. Lots of popular watches these days are homages, including the super popular BB58. As the bowl leader has mentioned in other postings, vintage watches are cool but also a pain for real world wearing. So if you like vintage style, but want something that both works and isn't absurdly expensive, get an homage.
An example to make my point. The James Bond big crown sub, ref 6538, is an iconic and sought after piece. If you can find one it will A) cost you $100k+, and B) be rather delicate because it's 60 years old and keep crappy time. Or you can get an MKII Kingston (pic attached) for ~$1k that looks very similar and is a really nice watch, similar to Monta quality.
Something that looks like a modern submariner with someone else's logo does not appeal to me. Way too many cool original watches (or vintage Homages) in the $300-750 range to spend the money on a sub copy.
They’re lazy
It depends. I don’t understand the blanket strong reaction in either direction
I like some of the vintage homage watches. Have a look here, some of those watches I would definitely like to own. https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/best-vintage-homage-watches-2018
The homage as in replica watches I don’t much care about
