To help develop thinking skills, write very clear and simple directions. When questions pop up, ask the students to read the directions back to you to make sure you didn’t make a mistake. Fix the mistake (it happens although I know you can’t believe it). Subsequent questions? Field them yet largely say “Figure it out.” Life is full of figuring things out. We guide and support the students. They feel great. They are proud. They are problem-solvers. They are flying solo.

Does anyone have experience working for Connections Academy or another virtual academy? I am very interested in teaching from home, but most virtual jobs I have reviewed still require you to come to an office/ school building. I want to know what it is like, specifically the work load. Hi fishes,

This annual appraisal I have got a good % of appraisal increment on my salary but I was not promoted to a senior developer (although I have been mentoring a junior dev in my team and been part of building the project by implementing new technologies and tweaks) and my total YoE is 3.5+ years. What could be the reasons? What should I do now?

Thanks in advance!!

Has anyone tried breathing exercises with their students to help them calm down at the start of class?

likeuplifting

Start each class with a few seconds of stillness. It takes consistent practice. Most students will blurt something silly out after about 4 seconds. Expect it and smile. After time is up ask students to notice what they were doing during that time. No shame. Notice and strive to be more still next.

1. Hands, feet, mouth, arms, legs still (a veritable challenge)
2. Close the eyes.
3. Long exhales to bring in the calming chemical acetylcholine.

Why not invest in your professional development by seeking a coach or mentor or even pay for professional resources that would help? To put it plainly, why don't we educators invest in our professional development?
