Trump campaigns on "illegal immigration." Proceeds to target completely legal paths for migration such as USRAP.

Trump-supporting lawyers, do you have a fetish for being lied to?

He didn’t campaign on “illegal immigration.” One of his advisors, Stephen Miller, was very explicit about ending all immigration. You have only yourself to blame for not picking that up.

I voted for Trump BECAUSE of his promises to end all immigration, legal and illegal😂

Don’t waste your time asking Trumpers why they support what they support. That’s so 2016.

Way too much free time here. No one is ending all immigration. 😂

“Among the categories of individuals born in the United States and not subject to the jurisdiction thereof, the privilege of United States citizenship does not automatically extend to persons born in the United States: (1) when that person’s mother was unlawfully present in the United States and the father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth, or (2) when that person’s mother’s presence in the United States at the time of said person’s birth was lawful but temporary (such as, but not limited to, visiting the United States under the auspices of the Visa Waiver Program or visiting on a student, work, or tourist visa) and the father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth.”

That pretty much means 99 percent of Indian associates or Chinese associates who came here anytime in the last four years (unless they marry a non-Indian/non-Chinese) are NOT going to be US permanent residents. Their green cards only take 120 years to process. Not making this up. There are 3000 green cards ( including numbers for spouses) a year for Indians and Chinese on work visas? There are over half a million Indians and Chinese waiting for their green cards. None of their children born in the US will be either 30 days from now according to the executive order. American immigration is inherently racist. Was never not so.

That’s all immigration for some people on the margins. 1.3 million Indians and Chinese are on the margin.

Will be until the circus moves to the Supreme Court. Won’t hold my breath that the nine folks at the Supreme Court will have their scruples around. After all that Chinese natural born citizen in San Francisco was from a century or two ago. We can have a new interpretation when it is convenient. Textualism can mean that case was decided wrong. These people on work permits are not subject to the jurisdiction of the US. None of us know what the Supreme Court is going to do on this. It’s a Russian roulette.

The effects are just beginning to be seen. If you had any illusions that this isn’t bad. Stephen Miller is a sociopath. He is going to exterminate all immigrants if he can. That’s the final solution.

It’s all immigration if you are the wrong side of the eugenics lottery from 1919.

As op was complaining it ends all immigration for vetted refugees. They throw out the illegals. Who’s left?

It’s right now sociopath Stephen Miller going after all immigration. Don’t hold your breath that the 9 folks at the Supreme Court are going to do something.

It’s just 1918 repeated all over again. We want European immigrants. That’s the law of the land today. Democrats, republicans. All of them are the same. Eugenics is the reality of the last 100 years of immigration policy and law. INA was and is still racist. A little more won’t change anything.

Not my country.

Then they came for that traitor Bolton, a war-hungry sellout with a book,

I have 32k miles with THY that are about to expire. Normally I'd go ahead and book a flight, but I can't project which countries might be locked down again 5-6 months from now (haven't accrued enough PTO to travel in near future). The only other way to keep the miles is to pay $10 per 1000 miles, as far as I know. Are there other strategies?

Recent career-switcher here. While I’m a veteran with the ad process, I am new to the UX agile process. Is it normal to not use briefs whatsoever? Is it normal for the UX research lead to have a stakeholder workshop (sans designers) to think of concept “thought starters,” then have a separate meeting with the UX design lead to vote on which 1 of 3 concepts to proceed with? In advertising, this is analogous to the client and researchers doing the campaign idea then telling the CD to execute it.

Hi Fishes,

I applied to one of the roles and after initial screening I happened to see in the website that there are no suitable openings for my profile.

I heard that the cool off period is six months. Does that apply to my situation because I didn't attend any interview.

Can I use referals to apply before 6 months? Or should I wait for 6 more months?

Thanks for your help.

Struggling to get work at a free market firm after lateraling. I was very well liked at my prior firm and had high hours so really struggling to understand why folks don’t seem to want to come back to me with more work. For those at free market firms, how frequently do you have to ask for work? How do you typically ask? Just send partners emails asking if they have any deals for you? Thanks y’all.

How to leverage personal connections for personal gain?

I am a 2nd year and my spouse is a higher up in engineering in big tech. He has some (but not a lot of) sway in outside counsel and could make some intros to in house counsel.

My firm will gladly use my connections for their own gain, so I’m making sure that if/when this situation comes, I take full advantage of it.

Looking for tips on short term and long term strategy.

Should I complain to a firm's HR if the interviewers laughed at my answer during an interview? Maybe it sounded scripted but it was still heartfelt and genuine: my immigration story and how that made me appreciate the rule of law. I said it soo many times during OCI's that maybe it eventually sounded robotic, but for the interviewers to laugh and one to say sarcastically "nice elevator pitch", I thought was rude. Thoughts?

PSA - We are headed into a self-imposed economic slow down. Now is not the time to lateral but if you do, I would make sure you are at a recession-proof practice or firm. The top law firms will be okay (they always are) but if you are part of a larger group of associates with no work, you are likely to be axed. Latham did it in the 2008 and 2011 and it will happen again. If you are an associate or really anyone but a rainmaker, you are expendable.
