Two weeks ago, I accepted a job offer. After passing the background check, the mgr asked for a start date, and I suggested the day after Memorial Day. A few days later, I realized I’d prefer to start on June 1st. I submitted the change request to HR (rather than my new boss) last Thursday. They said they would reach out to the mgr to see if the push-back was okay, but I haven't heard anything since. Should I worry that I haven't received confirmation yet, or is this just typical HR lag?

Might want to follow up. HR staff is spread thin everywhere these days.
Not sure of the policy at your new company but your original May start day might be better for benefits, if that’s important to you. Most places make you wait until the next month for full enrollment, so you’d be waiting until July with a 6/1 start date.

Really? I assume to begin employment at the 1st of the month would be better for benefits...

There always seem to be a disconnect. Just assume they never connected and follow up.

I would just follow up. More times than not it’s a simple communication issue
