The defense consultants on this bowl don’t advise directly on military matters, those are tactical decisions made by military commanders.
Not sure what you have against defense consultants, but please educate yourself before making comments publicly.
Also if the commanders judge they have the logistical capacity to do so, why not? Do you want the shahed drones to get through? UKR have a very different capacity for interception after 4 years of total war compared to 1 month here. Please use critical thinking when evaluating a scenario.
Agree and UAE is not deprived of resources like UKR.

1. I doubt management consultants ever get anywhere near these decisions
2. I doubt anyone on this thread or bowl actually knows a thing about military stuff
Most laid off…
Much of Ukraine consists of open terrain (plains, farmland), which allows for easier detection of low-flying drones.... Compare that challenge to defending mega cities

Shahed drones can maneuver between skyscrapers? I didn’t know that /s
The vast majority come through the waters you know…
Ukraine has been in a war for 4 years and has developed the capability over that time - though drones and missiles can still get through as we see with attacks recently in Kharkiv. The GCC has not been attacked like this before and they will learn from it too.
And nobody’s talking about infinite resources that GCC countries have. They aren’t limited like Ukraine. There is shit ton of money and the leaders aren’t performative like Mr Z who is only good for camera action.
Ukraine is unfortunately a failed state, nobody wants to move their business / invest there.
UAE has to protect the “safe” brand because unlike Ukraine it has something to lose. Hence the higher preparedness for the costs.
Besides, Dubai is straight on the coast, not that much of a time or space to place spotters and sensors. So imo they are managing not that bad
100%. Ukraine has failed leadership. I won’t want a TV actor to rule the country during war. Just because you were good at dancing on stage doesn’t mean you have strategic thinking required for war. I like the quick decision making and independence of GCC states.

It is indeed an expensive tactic, which the GCC states can afford. If that increases the likelihood of a successful interception and the price to pay is just money, what is wrong with that?
Interceptor availability is a valid concern. Strategy consultants working in defense won’t advise on this, so this is conjecture, but any current overuse is likely a result of three things:
1. A political decision has been made to defend UAE assets at all cost with no allowance for collateral damage (which is sometimes is regrettably accepted in Ukraine with their strained resources)
2. This decision is executed by military systems encountering a novel threat and operating ‘in anger’ for the first time, it will get more efficient a the conflict continues
3. Initial barrage was massive and multi-format, and therefore not possible to accurately match targets - lower volume attacks will enable more precise interceptions.
That political decision could be forced to prioritize defensive areas based on availability (not at that stage yet), the military systems will become more experienced and a lower volume will be more manageable.
Lower interceptor ratios should become the norm in future (with the help of UKR advice too), and if there are interceptor availability constraints we will see prioritization occurring to manage it.
Overall though, I think the UAE military is achieving their objectives currently and credit where it’s due to them!
I saw that article, that was for ballistic missiles, not drones. They were using auto mode instead of manual, which is not as crazy as it sounds for teams relatively inexperienced with live fire.
As others mentioned, calculus may be very different for UAE vs Ukraine when it comes to accepting a missile to get through. I’d also expect improvement over time as they get real world experience.

I am always amazed on how much consultants trust themselves and their inexistent knowledge and how much bullshit and “logical” justifications they may find to justify their personal opinion/position. 🤣🤣🤣

I am sorry my comment hurt you, I am happy to be proven wrong

Kinda begs the question, what type of defense consulting do mgmt consultants actually do? What’s it entail? 🤷♂️
Defense industry and manufacturing (in conjunction with Strategic Operations or Digital etc. depending on the project). Also, government defense transformations and operating model design.
Same way someone with a background in the oil industry advises on energy projects in the region but doesn’t deliver the operational output (e.g designs a new division for Aramco, but isn’t operating the rigs)
When you wake up rich everday anyways, why not?
