Strategist here. I find traditional consulting to be dry and not tapping into cultural drivers and consumer insight, which is what makes this work interesting for me. It’s also too late to move into consulting unless I would like to start from the bottom up as an Associate, sucking up to seniors who get off on power trips. I’m considering an exit to clientside or academia later down the line, though
This too! Considered law as well but it’s also a lot more dry.

Even if you're a talented creative there are better options. The only reason to work in this industry as a creative was the financial stability. Now it's just as precarious as any other creative work.
This is very true. I joined in account management because I was desperate to work in advertising and thought it would be easy to transfer to something like creative or strategy once I got my foot in the door but after jumping through endless hoops I simply lost stamina. Then I had kids and Covid happened and I adopted an “it’s just a job” mentality. I think account management is a cursed profession because the client will always give you the lion’s share of the blame when things inevitably go wrong and the creative/strat team often think you have some magical ability to persuade the client to sign off groundbreaking work for every brief as if they always have the inclination, authority, budget or position within their company to do so. On top of that you don’t create anything yourself or really get to flex your intellectual muscles so it’s hard to really see yourself in the work you do.

Curiosity about people is the crux of strategy (applied towards a creative end) and not found in other professions.
