We had a power outage during closing last week, and for a solid 15 minutes, it felt like summer camp.
With flashlights on their phones, everyone suddenly became way more chatty. The music was off, and there were just vibes.
It made me realize how rare those unscripted moments are in retail.
What’s something unexpected that ended up being the highlight of your shift?

That is honestly lovely. Unfortunately, I can't think of an interesting scenario that I would put a positive spin on. However, we did once have the roof of our building catch on fire and we were still expected to work through the smoke. It is not a positive story, but wow, did it ever give us something fun to talk about for weeks after 😂

Wow, that’s intense! I can see how it turned into a story everyone remembers.

It wasn't unexpected, but I worked the last shift my store was open before Hurricane Ian hit here a few years ago. It was the exact same kind of vibe you're describing, minus the phone flashlights (our power stayed on luckily). All our would-be customers were already hunkered down at home, so we basically spent the entire day running through our own hurricane prep checklists and obsessing over all the weather channel updates.

Wow, that sounds like a surreal shift, half prep, half weather-watching!

Those moments are always so fun! I honestly wish they happened more often.

Totally! Those are the kinds of moments that just stick with you.

What would be examples of cushy industry jobs with good wlb with 200-300k pay check in finance industry? My work is mostly FS so it seems to make sense that I exit in that direction, but I keep hearing that finance in general is less chill than normal corporate sector jobs. Or is that just for IB/PE/HF?
