I definitely think there’s a gender disparity in layoffs. Women, especially in certain industries, seem to be more vulnerable, especially when it comes to positions that are less likely to be viewed as critical. I’ve noticed that women often get laid off first during restructuring, even when they have the experience. What’s your take?

I agree completely with this. In my layoff, it was not our whole team who got the axe, just 4 out of 6 women (us 4 were so often cleaning up the extra work left behind by men on the team so I know it was not a performance issue, and to add to it, the two who got to stay were the only ones who never called this out). I almost wonder if it's that ancient idea of "oh I can't lay off a guy he has to provide for his family" that has crept into the modern workplace.
That's a really interesting question. I suspect if you asked people involved in determining who gets laid off they'd say it's an outrageous question. But I've wondered at times if managers really do see a woman's job as somehow less important and thus more disposable.

I think most would deny it too. Its the "we would never do that" answer with tons of statistics showing otherwise
It's not just what I think, but there are plenty of statistics out there to back it up. The one I see mentioned most is that in 2022 when the mass tech layoffs started, 45% of layoffs were women. When you factor in the ratio of men:women in the industry, it resulted in something like women being 1.6X more likely to be laid off than men. There is still so much gender discrimination in the industry and with everything going on politically right now, it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Ugh those numbers are horrible! And i hate to say it but I believe you're right, it is going to get a lot worse on the discrimination front these next four years
