Diversity means different perspectives and more inclusivity because, as much as I want to be a part of good change, I don’t have the background to know what to do. That is why it matters, and getting more diversity in leadership means starting those programs and listening to people, wherever they are on the career ladder.
Mentoring people is a good step to ensure diversity in senior staff. Assuming people stay with the company, they should be encouraged and given opportunities to rise through the ranks.
I worked somewhere that talked about diversity but never had it in senior roles. It felt performative. Having a manager who champions underrepresented staff is a start, but until leadership reflects it, change feels slow. Have you seen it done well?
