Sounds kid specific to me. Mine did fine with both of those movies at that age but yours may just be more sensitive where you need to pre screen the plots.
My 2 year old watches Disney movies and is fine with most (she'll tell us when she doesn't like it or it's scary and we respect that, but it's not often). My sister's kids are four and seven and they get scared with the same movies that my kid watches just fine. I think it depends largely on the kids' personality and temperament but also partly on how the parents help them watch the movies and explain it to them.
My 2yo favorites are tinker bell, Moana, and the older versions of little mermaid. Just for reference. She doesn't particularly like frozen and I'm not sure if she's watched lion king yet.
My almost 3yo got freaked out by Frozen as well. With her we’ve been doing a lot of the older movies. She is particularly fond of the Disney Robinhood movie, 101 Dalmatians, and the Aristocats.
They just played a movie at my kids daycare yesterday and they had to pull my 3 1/2yr old out because she was scared. We don’t do movies yet (although she is used to some screen time but YouTube kids). She kept saying “she was scared” when I picked her up. So I definitely think it’s child specific and whenever they’re able to handle it
mine watched frozen and encanto starting at 2. I waited until 4 for lion king, but she watched other princess disney movies around 3.

My oldest is 4 and we haven’t really done movies yet and try to limit to low stimulation shows. My husband and I are definitely ready to let him watch movies but the challenge becomes my 18 month old who I wouldn’t want watching so much of it. Just becomes pointless half the time we consider it.
Haha this is so true and I was just talking about this with my husband. Didn’t realize it’s an age thing til you mentioned it so that’s reassuring!
We watch almost all of the Disney movies! 3.5 year old. He’s tough and asks a lot of questions
Since they were born. We love Disney movies! Took each of my kids for their first trip to Disney World at 2, so was really fun to make sure they knew most of the main characters before we went. That being said....I have boys...they don't scare easily. They all rode the Tower of Terror at 5 and loved it!
