For me, it’s when they dig through a perfectly folded stack of clothes, grab the one at the bottom, and then walk away without picking up the others that they dropped.
As someone who is a customer and in customer service:
As a customer it is SOOOOOOO frustrating to have to dig through those neatly folded piles of clothes to find the right size. And in some places I've heard customers being told not to fold them back up or pick them up.
As a sales rep: I hate those stupid piles of clothes for the same reason.
Yes, common decency could be used by the customer, but golly gee wow, it's embarassing trying to fix the shirt pile while staff watch on with snark in their expressions instead of helping them before they have to dig through the stack.
The response from a past manager who taught me that proactive keeps you employed. "if you help them, they won't have to make a mess, they'll buy something and you keep your job."
Being on the phone is kind of 50/50 for me. As long as they are still aware that they need to pay and are moving it along, whatever. For me, probably when they are being impatient with an odd question, not something we deal with everyday so I’m sorry I don’t have the answer within 5 seconds of you asking!
I have to give a shoutout to the customers who go to the register, have their stuff rung up, and then act like it's a huge shock that they have to pay. They go rummaging for their wallet, then spend forever finding a debit card or cash. And speaking of cash, special mention for the ones who insist on giving you exact change and have to hold up the line and spend time digging through their change purse. You knew you were going to a store and you'd have to pay, be prepared for the moment!
Mine is when people don’t tip because they are “helping me” by boycotting tipping. They would prefer I get paid a living wage. Yeah me too buddy, but my employer doesn’t care if you stiff me, I do!
